Mock Accident Shows Realities of Unsafe Driving [Video]

Seymour and Oxford high schools teamed up for the annual "Take a Stand" say Friday.

Seymour and Oxford high schools teamed up Friday for the ninth-annual joint-town “Take a Stand Day!” at Oxford High School.

The event was made possible through a cooperative effort between Seymour and Oxford high schools, Seymour Police Department, Oxford Police Department, Oxford Resident CT State Trooper’s Office, Seymour Ambulance Association, Oxford Ambulance Company, Connecticut State Police Department and Oxford Fire Department.

The event focused on the responsibilities of safe driving, distracted driving and the consequences of mixing driving with alcohol and distractions. This program has received State and Federal recognition, including from the National Organization for Youth Safety for being proactive in the joint effort to promote the responsibilities of safe driving and combating teen underage drinking and driving.

The event included:

CT State Police with the “Roll-over Simulator” & “Seatbelt Convincer," CT State Department of Transportation,  The “IMPACT” Program, American Red Cross, Hull Funeral Home, Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association, National Trial Bike Champion Chris Clark, Life Star Air Ambulance Helicopter, “Think Again! A Pedal Kart Experience!” H.O.P.E. of Oxford, Valley Substance Abuse Action Council, Eagle Productions DJ Richie G, All Star Drive, CT Motor Club AAA, All Star Transportation Company & Officers from Seymour& Oxford Police Departments conducting field sobriety tests with “Fatal Vision."

Throughout the day, teens from both high schools moved through different events, assemblies, outside hands-on activities, and experienced the Nationally recognized program “Think Again! Pedal Kart Experience!” and even witnessed several mock mass casualty, multi-vehicle crashes with extrications to solidify the message that drinking and driving do not mix.

The event was sponsored by Katherine Matthies Foundation, Valley Community Foundation, Naugatuck Valley Savings & Loan, People’s United Bank, Seymour/Oxford Rotary Club, Oxford Lions Club, Seymour Lions Club, Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation, Oxford Booster Club and Daddio’s Used Auto Parts.
