Series of Thefts Investigated in Oxford

Police looking for suspects in three burglaries.

Police in Oxford are investigating a series of thefts that occurred in the past couple of weeks.

The most recent complaint came this weekend when a resident of Park Road in Oxford says more than $1,800 worth of items was stolen from his home sometime last week.

The thefts of electronics, including a TV, and jewelry happened between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 11 p.m. Friday, according to a police report on file at State Police Barracks Troop A in Southbury. The man filed a report with police on Saturday morning.

The report states that two rings worth about $850, a 42-inch flat screen TV valued at about $700, silver necklaces worth about $200 and an X-Box gaming system worth about $75 are missing.  All told, the value of the goods is estimated at $1,825.

The report does not state whether there was a sign of forced entry into the home. Oxford Officer Dave Ives is investigating.

In a separate incident, someone reported that a large sum of money and a laptop computer was stolen from a home on Roosevelt Drive. The thefts most likely occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Jan. 16, according to a police report, which states there does not appear to be forced entry into the home and doesn’t state how much money was stolen.

The case, which is being investigated by Trooper Michael Dyki, remains under investigation.

And in a third incident, on Jan. 18, police were told that someone broke into two locked sheds on Winesap Road and stole: five Stihl chainsaws, an industrial power washer and a Sthil backpack leaf blower. That case is being investigated by Officer Luke Ramirez.

Oxford Resident Trooper Sgt. Dan Semosky said police are thoroughly investigating all of the thefts. He urges people to keep all of their doors locked, utilize alarm systems and report suspicious activity.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office at 203.888.4353. All tips will be kept confidential.

Get cameras. you dont need to buy an expensive security DVR system, you can if you like to, they are great but if you run a wireless network system in your home, get a couple IP (or wireless network) cameras, while they wont record 24/7 like a DVR cam system would, they do record when they sense motion. I got a D-Link cam off Amazon and I just plug it in, point it what ever I want to watch and if anything passes near it it will email me the three frames before and the three frames after it detected movement. and you can log onto it from any internet connected comp and watch live , streaming video from the cam. also, you can turn your computer into a security system with software like "Vitamin B" that you can buy on line and you can even buy the hardware to hook wired cams to you PC and use it like a DVR system although you need to have a pretty powerfull system with alot of memory and Hard disc space to use its full potential. most web cams can also act as security cameras and programs like YAWCAM (paid but theres a free "Lite" version as well) will email you stills of what it detects also. look them up on the net.

...oh yeah, you can hook more than one camera to your system also, i plan on getting a few more and a couple for inside the house and garage... lol they have the ones that you can remotly pan and tilt via the computer too... I have them ordered should have them set up soon, I figure if a crook sees the outdoor cam and breaks it off or what ever, as soon as he enters one of the buildings, he's on camera...lol
