The Oxford Historical Society maintains 4 barrels for refundable aluminum can and plastic bottle donations at the Oxford Recycling Center. Volunteers pull full bags, reline the barrels, and eventually drive the full bags to the recycling center in Naugatuck. Workers are scheduled for 3 days (Wednesdays and Saturdays when the Center is open) and make 2-3 trips to check and empty the barrels as needed and to close down as at the end of each assigned day. Volunteers usually work in pairs, with one person checking the barrels and the other picking up full bags of cans and bottles and transporting them to the area recycling center in Naugatuck. Training and directions to the recycling center in Naugatuck are provided. The work is not heavy.
