Fred Astaire Southbury recently garnered prestigious honors at the 29th New England Dance Sport Championships which was held at the Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa, November 8th through November 11th.
For the third time in a row, Fred Astaire Southbury received the Most Spirited School award at the competition. In addition, many students placed in the top 3 in the Championship as well as in the single dance events. All of Southbury's participating students exhibited impressive skills after only one year of study.
The competitive nature is just part of the enjoyment experienced by the students. There is also a great deal of camaraderie that is shared by all.
"We are like a family," said studio owner Christian Lange. "Every moment we spend with our students is spent with friends who love to be around each other.” Co-owner Paulo Jorge added, "it can get pretty competitive on the floor so it's really great nice to see everyone gathering together after the competition. We've made it a tradition to take our students out on Friday night and it is amazing to see how people with so many different characters and backgrounds bond at the competition and cheer for each other. Everyone is already excited for the next Regionals in March and our first Fred Astaire Southbury Nationals in Las Vegas in April."
"We'd also like to give a special thanks to all of the Fred Astaire Southbury students who joined us this time to support our team," said Lange.
