Attorney Timothy Moynahan Receives Honorary Degree & Post University Names Law Library in His Honor

Timothy C. Moynahan, Esq., with practices in Waterbury and Southbury, was presented by Waterbury-based Post University with an Honorary Doctor of Letters Degree during the university’s May 10, 2014 commencement ceremonies.  After presenting the doctoral degree, the Post University Board of Trustees also announced that the university has named the law section of the university library after Moynahan. “These are two tremendous achievements and recognitions for me,” remarked Attorney Moynahan. “Having practiced law in Waterbury since 1964, I am very grateful to receive such notable and revered recognition.”

Post University bestowed the honors on attorney Moynahan following his notably generous donation in 2011 of more than 2,000 law books to its library. The donation doubled the university’s collection, making it the largest undergraduate legal studies library in the area. Moynahan is a long-standing member of Post University’s MBA Advisory Board, and the university noted that they had not received such a generous and abundant donation of legal publications.

Attorney Moynahan’s donation included an extensive and up-to-date assortment of Statutes, Codes, Case Reports, Connecticut Regulations, Law Textbooks, and Lawyer’s Practice Form books. Tracy Ralston, director of Post University’s library, commented, “This invaluable donation greatly enhances Post’s ability to meet the needs of our Legal Studies, Criminal Justice and Public Administration students.”

In closing his remarks to Post University graduates on May 10, Moynahan stated, “Your graduation ceremony is an ideal time to reflect on the importance of understanding which is so much more than mere knowing, understanding your work, understanding others, and their various points of view, understanding the world at large. Understanding is an integral component of wisdom, of being. I urge you to ask yourselves this very moment not what you want to be but who and what you want to become. Ask yourselves what task is calling to you---at home, at work, in the larger world-----that you need to embrace even though it’s impossible.”

Named “Super Lawyer of New England and Connecticut” 2009 through 2012 by New England “Super Lawyer” magazine, Moynahan has been practicing law in the Waterbury region since 1964. In January of 2014, he moved The Moynahan Law Firm to 60 North Main Street in Waterbury, and expanded the practice to 49 Peter Street in Southbury. 

The focus of The Moynahan Law Firm is personal injury and criminal defense while collaborating with other attorneys on corporate and commercial law, appellate law, employment and labor, estate and probate, family law and domestic relations, immigration, intellectual property, international law, real estate and workers’ compensation.

In addition to his advisory role with Post University’ MBA Advisory Board, Timothy Moynahan is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Global Virus Network (GVN); and a member of the Board of Advisors for the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine. He is also a past chairman and a current board member of the non-profit Palace Theater Group, Inc. in Waterbury.
