Wine & Spirits in Southbury is a supporting sponsor of the Woodbury FFA -
For the Future of Agriculture fundraiser, “A Toast to Summer 2014”, that will
be held at March Farms at 160 Munger Lane in Bethlehem on Saturday, June 7 from
1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Founded in 1947, Lake Wine & Spirits is Southbury’s oldest liquor store, and owners, Jeff and Patty Raether, are celebrating the store’s 67th successful year of entrepreneurship by selling a wide range of international wines, beers, spirits, and a top-notch selection of Connecticut-brewed craft beers. As exclusive wine and beer servers during the June 7th fundraiser, they will provide attendees with a variety of wine and craft beer tastings.
For the event, Lake Wine & Spirits will have 8 different distributors helping them provide 40 to 50 wine selections from around the world on 6 to 7 different wine tables, plus a variety of craft beers. “This is the first year we have been invited to be the sole wine and beer server at this very popular, 200-plus attendee fundraiser event," stated Lake Wine & Spirits Proprietor Jeff Raether. "Funds raised on June 7 will go towards scholarships for Nonnewaug High School students. We are delighted to be part of such a worthy ambition, and we’re confident we’ll be serving something that pleases everyone who stops by our tables.”
Raether explained that Lake Wine & Spirits carries over 2,500 wines from wineries on every continent. “We take great pride in our selection of wines. Our staff is very educated in wine and we taste every individual wine before we offer it in our store. We pride ourselves on our fantastic selection of wines. We carry many wines that are featured on the “Wine Spectator Top 100” list, including: Bordeaux, Brunello, Barolo, Cabernets, Chardonnays, Amarone, Cote De Nuits, Chablis, Pauiliac, St. Emilion, and Puligny Montrachet.
Katie Miranti, Lake Wine & Spirits General Manager stated, “In addition to the popularity of our vast wine selection, we are receiving a lot of requests for specialty craft beers. These beers are brewed in small breweries across Connecticut. Hops and barley enthusiasts are really enjoying drinking these locally-brewed beers as many of them have actually gone to the breweries and watched the production process. Due to the overwhelming support for craft beer, we started a special craft beer e-mail newsletter and ongoing e-mail notifications to keep our customers up to date on new beer releases, new beers we stock, and beer tasting events.”
The June 7th “A Toast to Summer 2014” event is being hosted by the Woodbury FFA Alumni to benefit their scholarship fund and other FAA activities. It will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at March Farms at 160 Munger Lane in Bethlehem. The event will feature live music by the popular Eight Miles High band with musicians Bill Sequin and Jim Filgate, Connecticut-grown and agricultural product vendors, FFA demonstrations, and food sampling offerings from local vendors.
