The Joy of Pottery Classes

Oxford Parks and Recreation is proud to present pottery making classes as detailed below.  For more information on these classes, or to register please call the Parks and Recreation office at 203 888-2543, Ext 3041 or go online www.OxfordRec.com

Creating pottery can be enjoyed by most everyone.  This class allows the individual to explore the many facets of pottery.  Join an instructor led class and explore pottery.

We will be exploring, depending upon the individual:

Wheel throwing - this is what most people think of as pottery creation but can be harder to learn

Hand building - this is quite fun, easy to do, and produces very sophisticated pieces. It is done using clay slabs, bowl coiling, plate and platter slumping, sculpture creations and extruding vases and shapes

Slip casting - pouring liquid clay into a mold to create a garden item, Christmas piece, figurine, or pitcher. There are about 1000 molds to choose from

Decorating and glazing pottery - Paint a piece of pottery that you created or one pre-made

Decorated pieces are fired at high temperature in our own kilns

Class Information:

Days: Monday 10:00am - Noon, Monday 6:30pm - 8:30pm or Thursday 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Location: Joy Ceramics Studio, 43 Peach Farm Rd, Oxford

Cost: $170 (6 weeks) Non residents welcome for an additional $10

Join an instructor led class and explore pottery.

Students are allowed to work in the studio on Mondays and Thursdays when their class is not in session. Students may also attend any of the other sessions to get extra experience or more time to work on their pieces.
