Farmer's Market Will be Held Saturday and Later This Month

Residents will have a chance to buy local produce.

A farmer's market to showcase and sell goods produced by local farmers will start this weekend.

The farmer's market, located at Center School on Route 67, Oxford Road, will feature honey, syrup, produce and fruit.

First Selectman George Temple said the town wanted a farmer's market because he wanted to afford people the opportunity to buy local produce.

The market will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 17, and on Aug. 24 and Aug. 31.

Temple said he would like the market to be a permanent feature in town and has spoken to the new owner of the Oxford House about locating the market there next year.

"I think it's just a wonderful idea," Selectman Jeff Haney said.
