Lookin' A Lot Like Christmas in Oxford [Video]

Hundreds show up for the holiday event at Town Hall.

More than 300 people attended a holiday ceremony and tree lighting event at the Stephen B. Church Memorial Town Hall in Oxford on Friday night.

Children from area public schools played holiday tunes and Santa Claus showed up to take requests from local children. The jolly man made his way into town in style - on the back of an Oxford fire engine.

Oxford Patch was at the event to take photos. We did not add captions to all photos because we took so many. But if you want us to add a name to a caption, feel free to email me at paul.singley@patch.com. Thank you.

What a great performance. I am sorry we missed it. Great Job Singing! Way to ring in the Holidays!

(previously commented under the event announcement) This was a pretty weak experience. The fact that the musicians played nothing but religious music would be much more egregious if we could have actually heard them sing. We also couldn't discern if there was anyone acting as MC; and that made the goings on much more disjointed. The kids in and near the chorus/band were screaming for something, but we had no idea what. Then, all of a sudden, they were counting down to light the tree. 15 minutes after that (as we were pulling out of the Center School parking lot), Santa finally pulled up. It seems like the preparation for this event was lacking. I surmise (but can't know) that things were not planned or coordinated very well; and nobody did a real rehearsal / sound level check. With a few tweaks this could be a much more pleasant experience for all involved.

Matt next year's Christmas Lighting Event; it would be wonderful if you would volunteer to plan and to coordinate it.
