Oxford Girl Scouts to Sell Ribbons for Newtown

The ribbons are available at Town Hall during normal business hours.

 

Oxford Girl Scouts will sell white and green ribbons to honor the memory of victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

All proceeds of the ribbons, which cost $1 apiece, will be put toward the Sandy Hook Girl Scout Campership Fund. Girl Scouts of America has set up a fund to assist girls who attend Girl Scout summer camp.

The ribbons will be sold at Town Hall during normal hours.

Eight of the girls who died in the Sandy Hook shooting on Dec. 14 were Girl Scout Daises in Newtown; two of the boys who died were sons of Girl Scout leaders in Newtown, said Ann Gamauf, leader of Girl Scouts in Oxford.

The Oxford Girl Scouts decided to make green and white ribbons for a vigil that was held Sunday night in Oxford. The girls made about 1,100 ribbons and gave out about 600. They gave the rest to the Oxford Town Hall.

Oxford Fire Selectman George Temple said someone purchased 100 ribbons Thursday and plans to pass them out at church.
