Spooner House Turkey Drive Set to Go

As always, Dr. Bruce Sofferman and his family will be collecting donations this year at Smile Dental Center in Oxford.

The Spooner House's annual frozen turkey and fixings drive has begun and will feature a variety of locations and methods for everyone to donate between now and Nov. 18.

See below for a detailed listing of locations.

Again this year, popular Smile Dental Center owner, Dr. Bruce Sofferman, along with his wife Deborah Sofferman and their daughter Sophia Sofferman, will be wearing traditional Pilgrim and Native American costumes and will be joined by a turkey mascot as they attempt to flag down drivers to drop off turkeys and fixings from 7 to 10 a.m. in Oxford on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 318 Oxford Road (Route 67) and again on Thurs. Nov. 15, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the R.D. Scinto Corporate Park, located at One Corporate Drive in Shelton.

Dr. Sofferman’s Smile Dental Centers at 318 Oxford Road in Oxford and 61 Elizabeth St. in Derby will also be collecting frozen turkeys and fixings all week during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 12 to 16.

New locations this year include the Huntington Hose Fire Co. in Shelton, Frank Hoinsky Real Estate Fill A Bus in Ansonia, Seybridge Pharmacy in Seymour and the Boy Scouts Scouting for Food.

More people than ever in the lower Naugatuck Valley are in need of support to obtain all the ingredients necessary for satisfying holiday meals, so Spooner House is asking everyone to be as generous as possible.

“More than 6,000 individuals have been served by the Food Bank this past year, comprising over 153,000 meals, 92,000 more than just four years ago when 61,000 meals were served,” explained Executive Director Susan Agamy. “Our supplies have virtually disappeared this week because of recent requests for local aid following the visit to Connecticut by storm Sandy.”

Continuing the tradition, only frozen turkeys will be collected on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Seymour. The 8th Grade Gold Team from Seymour Middle School is again sponsoring this location.

A list of specific food items needed for the frozen turkey drive is at the end of the release or visitwww.actspooner.org for more details.

Only locations with an asterisk below will be collecting frozen turkeys, the others are only collecting nonperishable items for the holiday food baskets.

Great to see IMTI leading the way into the solar future! I went to that school specifically toRead More become a solar electrician. It was before they had a solar program, at the time it was the E-2 electrical course. I see America has a chance to build prosperity again if we will be forward-looking about our manufacturing and energy strategies. My company, Made In USA Solar LLC, aims to contribute to that in a small way, doing what we can by only installing materials made in USA. Congrats to IMTI on their ambitious solar plans!

Archie, Your wrong. Constitutions were written for a reason not to determine whether it's a livingRead More document or not. Politicians and or Anti-Americans only believe that the constitutions are a dead document. They are excuses to put forth an agenda. Without Constitutions this country would be chaos and we wouldn't have the freedoms we have today. Only in your eye's does the words not apply because you think government can prevent and do anything they want. It's the people that rule, NOT THE POLITICIANS!

That is looking at the Constitution as a dead piece of paper instead of a living document. LivingRead More Constitutions read as if they were written yesterday not over 250 years ago. Is the Constitution living or dead. When common sense and ordinary circumstances show that the words of the Constitution no longer apply then the document is dead. That is what occurs when weapons/arms have become so powerful and dangerous that having them available in the numbers you have in this country is tantamount to ultimate murder and chaos. This is definitely not what the Framers had in mind as shown by the words prefacing the 2nd amendment referring to a militia.
