Summer Concert Series Coming to Oxford

Some concerts will be held at Jackson Cove.

From Deb Gatto, Oxford Parks and Recreation Director:

Oxford Parks and Recreation is proud to announce that we are now hosting the summer concert series!  We have booked some really fun bands to perform for you at from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on select Tuesday evenings through the summer.

Bring your lawn chairs, pack your picnic baskets and come sit back, relax and enjoy great music in this beautiful setting.  Who knows?  Maybe you’ll be inspired to get up and dance, too!  Light refreshments will be for sale as we try to raise funds to finish our concession stand construction.  Concerts are free to the public and permit restrictions will be waived starting at 5 p.m. on concert nights.  The schedule is below:

Tuesday, July 10th                            Memphis Soul Spectacular

A Stomping Tribute to the Southern Soul Sound That Rocked the Planet. In the 1960’s the cities of Memphis, Macon, and Muscle Shoals were home to the Southern soul sound that made the world dance -- the musical wellsprings of greats like Sam & Dave, Al Green, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Solomon Burke, the Staples Singers, Little Milton, and Booker T & The MGs.  With the dynamite vocals of Rob “Mr. Big Stuff” Jockel, a relentless rhythm section, and brass-knuckle horns from some of New England’s most seasoned bands, MEMPHIS SOUL SPECTACULAR brings to life the laid-back romance, sweaty grooves, and front-pew power of the great Southern Soul era.

Tuesday, July 17th                            The Larry Stevens Band

Larry Stevens, an accomplished NJ-NY singer-songwriter, has spent the last decade in the NY area and in Nashville, TN, performing and writing with some of the world’s best musicians.  Most recently, he had the honor of sharing the stage with Huey Lewis and The News, Kenny Loggins, Todd Rundgren and Foreigner.  Others may recognize Larry from his upbeat and energetic performance opening for Peter Frampton and the Doobie Brothers or at one of his many rockin’ shows at the world famous Bluebird Café in Nashville.  Larry and his band are sure to bring the house down with his broad range and style, performing many songs you’ve known and loved for years!

Tuesday, July 31st                            Orange Crush

Orange Crush is New England's premier 80's tribute dance party band. Based in Springfield, MA, for 15 years and running, they have performed at thousands of shows throughout the majority of the United States at colleges, universities, weddings, corporate events, private parties, boat cruises, town concerts, fairs, 80's theme parties, fundraising events, and many more.

Tuesday, August 21st                      Shaded Soul

Shaded Soul is a high-energy 7-piece band that has been established since 1985 by owner/keyboard player Renee Prescott.  The unique vocal stylings and dynamic stage presence of their lead vocalists Bobby Davis and Patricia Thompson captivate audiences and keep the dance floor filled all night long. Shaded Soul has one of the hottest rhythm sections in New England consisting of Bob Hill on drums, Tom Perrone on lead guitar, and Dave Laport on bass guitar, laying down a funky groove to artists like Marvin Gaye, The Commodores, Patti LaBelle, and Alicia Keys.  Last but not least are their “Funktified” horns with Bill Rood playing tenor and alto sax throwing down horn lines from Earth Wind & Fire, Average White Band, and James Brown.  Audiences say “Their energy is pure”, “Everybody from my Grandparents to my little kids enjoyed their performance”, “Amazing & fun to watch”, “We give them a triple A+!”

Great to see IMTI leading the way into the solar future! I went to that school specifically toRead More become a solar electrician. It was before they had a solar program, at the time it was the E-2 electrical course. I see America has a chance to build prosperity again if we will be forward-looking about our manufacturing and energy strategies. My company, Made In USA Solar LLC, aims to contribute to that in a small way, doing what we can by only installing materials made in USA. Congrats to IMTI on their ambitious solar plans!
