Oxford Parks & Rec Department has announced their entertainment line-up for this year's summer concert series. From 50's to 80's and from Southern-fried rock to oldies and even polka, this year's concerts will be sure to have your hips shakin' and your toes tappin'!
The fun takes place on select Tuesday nights from July through August at Jackson Cove Beach from 6:30-8:00pm. Here's what they have in store....

Those who have seen the band perform live in their latest incarnation might be surprised to know that the Bernadettes started out in the early 1990 as a traditional-style blues band, covering songs by the likes of John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, as well as later bluesmen like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. But the band soon began experimenting with their own unique versions of R&B classics from James Brown, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and their contemporaries. This evolved further with the addition of classic Motown hits, contemporary funk, soul, and R&B flavored rock songs to their large and varied, dance-oriented song list. The resulting mix has become the staple of the band's offering to live audiences. Continuous appearances at a variety of venues have established the Bernadettes as one of the area's premier live acts. They were voted the best rhythm and blues band in the New Haven Advocate, "Sounds of New Haven" 1996 readers poll, and also chosen by that paper as New Haven's #1 bar band. A constantly growing song list, matched with the band's frenetic brand of soul, make for a memorable evening for anyone who wants to move their feet and dance to the beat.

The Rubber City Blues Band draws its name from the rich heritage of Naugatuck, Connecticut's once thriving rubber industry and is made up of musicians from all over the region. At 11 members strong, RCBB provides an entertaining and powerful mix of Pop, Rock and Rhythm & Blues. With a dynamic blend of vocalists and a 5 member horn section, the band has loudly and clearly made its presence known on the local music scene. Since August 2007, they have performed at many venues including numerous summer concerts, local night clubs, restaurants, and charitable events.

To end our summer concert season, we're going to have a bit of an Octoberfest....but in August! It's AUG-toberfest! Dad's Food Truck will be on hand to serve some good old German food-some for free, some to sell. We'll also have non-alcoholic beer in mugs and a few other surprises as well! The Polka Brothers are a one of a kind musical experience that will not only drive your party or event, but keep others talking about it for years to come. At first glance they’re a well-oiled polka machine, boasting a fearless repertoire that includes polka favorites, pop and rock gone polka, and unforgettable originals. It’s all incredibly fun. They love hooking the audience in with lively polka covers of songs they already know, rocking it on a traditional polka they may not, and taking it home with a fun original they’ll be singing for the rest of the evening – at least. So bring your dancing shoes and your appetite! It's AUG-toberfest!
CONCERT INFO
Bring a blanket, some lawn chairs and of course your picnic baskets and come sit back, relax and enjoy some great music in the beautiful open-air setting with friends and neighbors. Light refreshments will be for sale to raise funds for Oxford Parks & Rec to finish their concession stand.
Concerts are free to the public and beach permit restrictions will be waived at 5:30pm on concert nights. All are welcome!
