Oxford 'Dad' in Business on the Road

If you want a basic burger like the guy down the street sells, Lou Granato says he would rather you go to the guy down the street.

But if you want to try something unique, then Granato's new "Dad's Food Truck" is for you.

Granato, an Oxford resident who has been in the food industry for decades, opened his food truck for the first time Thursday at 253 Roosevelt Drive, Route 34 in Derby, in between "Books By the Falls" and "Yale Boat House."

The menu, which will change regularly, had unique offerings Thursday, which included a burger with spinach, mushrooms and blue cheese, a hot dog topped with lemon-buttered shrimp and crushed potato chips, and an Italian combo sandwich with antipasta salad on top.

And where else in Connecticut can you get a Chicago-style hot dog? You know, the one you hear about with mustard, relish, tomato, onion, celery salt, pickle and hot pepper. Granato had that on the menu Thursday, as well.

"The food truck is the way to go," said Judy Naugright of Derby, clutching a spinach burger at "Dad's." "It's quick, it's fun. And we have known Lou for many years, and he's always been a great cook."

Granato use to own a catering business for several years and a restaurant in Oxford for about five years called "Dad's," as well.

"The food truck is the new thing in food," he said. "Plus, we are doing something unique so we believe people will enjoy it."
