Support Your Favorite Small Business With a Patch Shout-Out

With Small Business Saturday coming this weekend, you can help drive feet—and wallets—to your favorite independent business.

You might be the type who finds sleeping on a freezing sidewalk for the best Black Friday deals exciting. Or perhaps you've already started working out your mouse-clicking finger for Cyber Monday. But if neither scenario appeals to you, there is an alternative—Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday, conceived by American Express to help spotlight the efforts of local small businesses, comes at the beginning of the big holiday shopping sprint, this Saturday and encourages shoppers not to bypass Main Street for the mega-mall.

Oxford Patch would love to hear which small businesses you can't live without in Oxford and neighboring towns where residents shop, such as Southbury. Tell us in the comments which independently owned business is a must for shoppers this Saturday and why. Your shout-out could help a sector of our economy that has created 65 percent of the net new jobs over the last 17 years.

So when you must get your nails done just right, discover that perfect bottle of wine or have a craving for an amazing sandwich, where do you go time and time again?

When you are shopping for your pets this holiday visit the Pet Super Bowl here in Oxford. Joann has been a strong supporter of the Oxford Animal Shelter by donating time, goods and fundraising efforts, including selling event tickets in store and getting the Pet Photos With Santa event started.

Shop The Mad Hatter Boutique in downtown Seymour, as well as, the many small, privately owned shops. There is an eclectic mix of old and new, inspirational and entertaining and gifts for every budget!

Oxford Liquor Shop! Dave Z is about as local as they come. For a small shop, he has one of the most well-chosen wine selections in a 20 mile radius. His recommendations are to be trusted and he tastes much of what he sells. Gets to know his customers too. Wish I had several more characters because I could keep going. I

I agree with this one, too. (I won't pretend to know them all, I promise. But I do know these two.)

I hope everyone goes out and supports small business tomorrow. While you are at it, look for American made gifts and products. Newbury Place in Southbury has a great selection of gifts and more than a few American made products to choose from. Fascia's Chocolates are made right in Waterbury. I'm sure you can find some US products at Pet Super Bowl and its worth asking to help spread the message.
