Jobs figures for June show Oxford has a lower unemployment rate than it did in the first three months of the year, when the perentage of unemployed was higher than 6 percent. But the unemployment number is creeping back up, according to Connecticut Department of Labor statistics.
Oxford's unemployment rate went up to 5.9 percent in June, up from 5.8 percent in May. The highest rate this year in Oxford this year was 6.5 percent in January and the lowest was 5.7 percent in April.
In June, the most recent stats available, Oxford had 447 unemployed people.
Oxford's percentage of unemployed remains far lower than the state average of 8.1 percent. Nationally, that number is 8.2 percent.
