OXFORD- A 24-year-old local man drowned after falling out of a canoe on Swan Lake in Oxford’s south end early Saturday (June 30, 2012) afternoon.
Sources said D.J. Brooks fell out of the boat while riding in a canoe in the lake off of Park Road around 1:30 p.m.
Two residents nearby pulled him to the edge and started CPR before Oxford Ambulance arrived, Oxford Fire Chief Scott Pelletier said.
Oxford Ambulance Corporation members continued CPR when they arrived and brought Brooks to Griffin Hospital in Derby where he was pronounced dead, Pelletier said.
The residents had to swim about 100 yards or so to bring him to shore.
The Oxford Fire Department and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were on scene to help.
Oxford Patch will try to bring you more details as they become available.
