More than 50 cases of a rare and deadly fungal meningitis have been caused from a steroid injections, reports the Examiner, but no cases have been in Connecticut.
The Centers for Disease Control said that Middlebury’s Interventional Spine & Sports Medicine is the only place in the state that received the contaminated steroid.
According to the Associated Press, most of the 39 patients who received the injection have been contacted.
The outbreak of fungal meningitis has already killed five people. Some of the symptoms, according to the CDC, include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Nausea and vomiting
- Photophobia (sensitivity to light)
- Altered mental status
