Oxford Animal Control Believes Someone is Cutting Cat Heads Off Bodies

Animal control officials said this is the second such incident this year.

is investigating after a cat head that had been severed from its body was found in the middle of the intersection between Moose Hill and Rolling Hills roads on Saturday night.

This was the second time this year that a cat head had been found in the same location, animal control officials said.

Assistant Animal Control Officer Cori Wlasuk said that on Saturday night, someone sliced the gray and white tabby cat’s head off of its body with a blade and placed it in the middle of the street so that the eyes would look at passersby. The reason animal control officials believe a person, rather than an another animal, is responsible for this act is because the neck was severed clean, Wlasuk said.

“The eyes were looking up at you, it was disgusting,” she said.

The fact that this is the second such incident this year gives animal control officials a little more confidence in saying that this is the work of a person, not another animal, said Sandy Merry, Oxford's head animal control officer.

She said the Dembek family at 180 Moose Hill Road found the first head seven or eight months ago and informed her office. At the time, the animal control office was not sure what to make of the incident.

Fourteen-year-old Abbie Dembek spoke to the media Monday, with her father’s permission, about what she witnessed eight months ago. She said her mom was driving her to a party when she noticed the cat head in the middle of the road. Her mother turned the car around and called animal control, Abbie Dembek said.

“The woman from animal control said she could tell the cat was strangled by the color of its tongue and that its head was cut off,” she said.

Her father, Larry Dembek, said he’s lived in Oxford since 1963 and built his current house on Moose Hill Road in 2004. He said his neighborhood is quiet and safe.

“I don’t know what the story is or why anybody would do that,” he said. “It doesn’t make any sense.”

The woman who found the cat on Saturday could not immediately be reached for comment. She is a veterinarian technician who lives at 178 Moose Hill Road, according to animal control officials.

Oxford Resident Trooper Sgt. Dan Semosky said the resident trooper's office is looking into the complaint.

“We have to look at the evidence and investigate before we comment further,” he said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Oxford Animal Control Shelter at 203-881-3653.

So which resident here in town is raising the next Serial killer?? how many 10 to 18 year olds in that area? how many have social problems? Are any of them being treated for any mental illness? Are there any adults in the area who have any mental illness? Any "New" families move in with in the last two years? If this is a kid, He just may be the next one to shoot up a school or go hunting hikers in the woods or some crazy stuff like that. Put up security (hidden) cameras!!
Craig Zac July 16, 2012 at 01:57 PM
The problem is, the cops or the FBI (Especially the FBI) wont spend any time on this untill they get a clear lead. These are cats, most likley strays or ferrals, if it were humans, its another story. This would be a job for animal control who, sadly, isnt equipped, manned or funded to handle an investigation like this. I think it is up to the folks living in the area to be vigilant, keep a sharp eye out for strange cars cruising the area, maybe you see a car go up and down the road a couple times one night, take the tag# down just in case. In fact, that goes for everyone in town, keep your eyes open. have they described the cat yet? male? female? colors? see if its someones pet or not?

Perhaps if everyone writes or calls the police department and first selectman's office they will take it seriously? There is power in numbers.

What does 10 to 18 years old have to do with anything . This could be anyone male or female ,young or old. Most times the truth is found through friends from someone who might brag about themselves...Don,t narrow your seach by implying a specific group.
Craig Zac July 16, 2012 at 08:15 PM
cause this stuff is USUALLY ten to 18 year old "next generation Serial Killers" learning their trade. (I did include adults inmy list, ya just have to read the whole thing.)

No - "JOE" - he is trying to make everyone think he is a criminal profiler and giving us his "assessment" based on his own forensic bs. Actually, there is another incident of this just reported on Patch's Wilton edition that a family in Fairfield found a severed cat's head in it's yard on a putting green (I think that it said 'astroturf') so wouldn't this mean that this perpetrator - and a very sick and evil one no doubt - is getting bolder and expanding outside of the Oxford area now?? This whole thing is so creepy and sadistic - it's always the most innocent, the animals, who are victims of this type of sociopath's behavior. Jeffrey Dahmer started out this way - this perpetrator needs to be found and stopped ASAP! This should be taken very seriously and it appears that the police are doing just that. But animal control needs to pass it onto the higher ups who are more equipped to deal with and can profile this person who is doing this to these poor cats!!
Sushi July 22, 2012 at 03:20 AM
You should be behind bars for such an irresponsible and disgusting comment! I hope they catch you and ban you for life for such a comment!! Only a pig would talk like that!
Sushi July 22, 2012 at 03:22 AM
Paranoia will destroy ya! I am so glad you are not my neighbor - you're comments here are really scary and remind me of the McCarthy era!!
Sushi July 22, 2012 at 03:23 AM
LOL - way to go Elliott!! I'm voting for you if you decide to run for office!!
Sushi July 22, 2012 at 03:27 AM
I just saw those too! I can't believe this is happening around here. Maybe it's the work of gangs?? Gang rituals do horrible things to stray animals in Los Angeles all the time - I have read about this a while ago but I think they still do that sort of stuff as an "initiatation" into these gangs!! The other thing I was wondering about now that these Chickens are involved is that it could be animal ring fighting and these animals were used as bait and then their heads were cut off. The other thing it could be some sort of Carribbean ritualism. I say it's one of these or it's a serial killer in training. And we should all be very afraid as it appears that anarchy is running rampant all over the place today!

SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE PLAYING ALONG WITH THIS SICKENING JACKASS! HAVE FUN ..
Elliott July 22, 2012 at 03:58 PM
this comment is so disguisting and uncalled for. Such an insensitive person like you wouldnt be able to understand the severity of the situation. Maybe youre a kitty hater
Craig Zac July 23, 2012 at 12:03 PM
Sushi... Paranoia?? Who do you think the Police will look at first? Soccar moms? school teachers? Town politicians, How is profiling a criminal McCarthyism? Do you even know what that means? You should go watch a few documenteries on police investigations or on serial killers... BTW, Im glad im not YOUR neighbor, who knows what kind of sick, twisted person hides behind a fake screen name yet thinks anything they say will be taken seriously?
Craig Zac July 23, 2012 at 12:12 PM
Oh yeah joe, ya got me...playing right along... maybe next we'll go chop of MY cats head, or some of the CATS I worked with AS A DIRECTOR of a busy animal shelter, or perhaps the heads of the countless homeless kittens I have helped care for.. and photographed for news papers, Or maybe, just maybe, as I was delivering hundreds of pounds of donated food to the area shelters (FOR FREE!!!) including our shelter here in town, I was planning my next job..? GASP!!! Oh no, I m spending all this time and money and miles on my car, and gas just to help all the cats in shelters, looking for a home, just to kill them.. I wish to thank you for your tireless efforts to HELP these animals ...by accusing others, good job! Now back to my "Fun" in "Playing along"...

I love kitties. I help Feralcare trapping them near my home and bringing them in to be spayed, then I feed them and give them shelter all year long. There are 5 that I take care of and I love them ALL!. If I ever saw anyone trying to harm any kitty or other animal id loose it for sure and maybe go to jail.
