Oxford Girl, 12, Run Over By Car While Sledding

The girl is stable after 3 p.m. incident on Hart Court.

A 12-year-old local girl was struck by a car while sled riding in a front yard on Hart Court Thursday afternoon.

The girl accidentially entered the roadway and slid underneath a car, which ran over her legs with its back tires, according to Oxford emergency services personnel. The incident happened at the home of the girl's friend around 3 p.m.; Oxford had no school today.

Oxford Ambulance transported her to St. Vincent's Hospital where she was listed in stable condition early Thursday evening.

Oxford Fire Chief Scott Pelletier said he's heard of similar sledding incidents but never in Oxford.

"Kids have to be careful when sledding; they have to be aware of their surroundings," he said.

Hart Court is a dead-end street off of Good Hill Road near Jackson Cove Park.

It's not just sledding, on my way to work this morning I had one person pushing a snow blower come right out into the road in front of me and another on a small ride on tractor with a plow back right out infront of an oncoming car. Neither one of them stopped to look if there was oncoming traffic.

My thoughts and prayers go to all parties involved. This is a terrible thing to happen to anyone. We all need to be more careful and aware.

Word is the girl is OK. A high school kid wrote this on our public Oxford Patch Facebook page: --- From: Ryan Morgan: That was my sister, she's fine. ...The car hit her legs, but they aren't broken or anything.

What's the kid's name? Is she in my grade?
Paul Singley November 09, 2012 at 03:15 AM
I don't know. I think her last name is probably Morgan.

OK... I'm now pretty sure her name is Alyssa Morgan.

Thank God. Hopefully, the car stopped as well and didn't drive off.

I'm so glad she's ok! My daughter goes to school with her older sister (both of them). We are relieved to hear she's ok!

The whole thing is so sad. I know all involved and all are wonderful people. It was a freak, sudden, unexpected thing and could have happened to any of us. I'm just so sorry it happened. You all have my love and support. Thankfully, Alyssa is a miracle child. ;) xoxo

Let's all resolve to be more aware of our surroundings, whether sledding, shoveling, walking or driving. Glad she's okay.

GEG - the driver is an amazing person and did all that was possible to help.
CMG November 09, 2012 at 01:23 PM
Glad the little girl is ok. That is also very traumatic for the driver and hope the driver is ok also.

Justin Che Wilkin November 17, 2012 at 02:31 AM
shel7920- what's your name? Now that you said Alyssa Morgan, I'm pretty sure she IS in my grade (7th grade) because I don't know of anymore Alyssa Morgans in Oxford right now. And how long will she be absent again? Or is she already back to school from it? I'm pretty sure your 1st (first) name is Shelby because your Patch name is shel7920.
