Oxford Not Rescheduling Trick-or-Treat and Other Info. from Town Hall

See what the first selectman says about happenings around town.

Oxford First Selectman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers says, because of safety reasons, the town will not reschedule another day for Halloween trick-or-treating. However, some neighborhoods have scheduled their town trick-or-treat events.

The town's Parks and Recreation Department will not reschedule trick or trunk because schools will be closed. (See more below.)

Drayton-Rogers also said the Oxford Senior Center will reopen on Monday and that this Saturday's Oxford Arts & Crafts Fair will be relocated to Oxford Town Hall.

Oxford Parks and Rec Director Deb Gatto sent the following information:

Per the Superintendent of Oxford Public Schools, all schools are closed for activities through this weekend.  Therefore, all Parks and Recreation activities are also canceled.  They include: Open Swim, Razors Swim Team & Swim Lessons at OHS, Kids Dance Classes, Slamma Jamma Basketball, Zumba, Youth Basketball, Open Basketball, Cardiovascular Fitness Classes, Cardio Kickboxing, Co-Ed Volleyball.  We will schedule makeup dates whenever possible.  As we do this – we will post the information on OxfordRec.com website.

Trick or Trunk has been canceled and will not be made up this year.  We look forward to seeing everyone next year for this wonderful event.

We hope to resume our normal activities schedule on Monday, November 7th.  For now – let’s hope everyone gets their power back very soon.  Stay warm and stay safe!

That's too bad, it would have been nice to let the kids get their trick or treating done in light of everything else we're dealing with.

I agree! As a resident who is still without power I understand that there are larger issues but it would be nice to have a fun event. Other towns have had great ideas including a First Selectman that created a trick or treat event at the municipal building with town donations and another local town that is borrowing a companies parking lot to hold trick or trunk. I believe the vibe of the article is that the town won't declare an "official" rescheduled Halloween but it doesn't mean that the citizens can't.

I made a flier to hang around our neighborhood so kids can enjoy the tradition and people will know to leave the lights on if they have treats to give. We will be heading out to pass them out today so they will be prepared. Let me know if you want a copy of it... I can share~

I'm so thankful to the person that made up the flyers around the Oakwood and Sycamore area. We tried to get something together but our printer wasn't working and my 12 yr old didn't want to hand write 50 notices!!! Thank you!!! My kids will be FINALLY able to wear the costumes I bought!!! Happy treating to all!!!

Maybe the neighborhoods that are planning for trick or treating could post here. Many of us are still without power and are unable to do fliers.

It's sad that Oxford isn't rescheduling the trick or trunk. Seymour rescheduled theirs for Nov 18th and trick or treating on Saturday. Many towns have rescheduled Halloween events.

I don't get it because I was just told that Soccer is on for Saturday, so there is a miscommunication somewhere if the Sup said 'no activities' at the school through the weekend

The OHS football game was also canceled for tonight, don't know why we would be offering soccer or any other sport when people are still without power.
