Rabid Raccoon Bites Dog in Oxford [UPDATE]

Residents asked to beware of animals acting strange.

Updated at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday: Unfortunately the dog, a 12-year-old Pit Bull, had to be euthanized. Its remains were sent to state animal control officials to examine. 

Original story: A raccoon that recently bit a dog near Anthony Pond Road in Oxford has tested positive for Rabies

The raccoon was tested on Wednesday and Rabies was confirmed, said Joanne Pelton, administrative aide to First Selectman George Temple.

Animal control officers urge all residents to make sure they are up to date on the rabies vaccination for all of their animals.

Anyone who sees animals acting strange should call the Animal Control Office at 203-881-3653.
