Oxford: Dedication of New Tennis Courts

Where: Great Oak Road in Oxford, across from the back parking lot of Quaker Farms School

When: Saturday, 2 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: The courts will be dedicated in honor of Ryan VerNooy, an Oxford resident who died in a car accident at age 23 in December 2010. The courts were donated to the town by Ryan's mother, Nancy VerNooy, and paid for by donations and grants.

Oxford: Made in CT Fair

Where: Colonial Tavern, Oxford

When: Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $3 for adults, $2 for seniors, children get in free

Description: Several vendors from all over the state will be at this event, sponsored by the Oxford Democratic Town Committee. 

Oxford: AJ Croce Concert

Where: Oxford High School

When: 7 p.m. Saturday

Cost: $35 general admission

Description: Famed  singer/songwriter A. J. Croce, the son of legendary singer Jim Croce will be in town on Oct. 20 to perform a benefit concert to raise money to build a new animal shelter in town.

Monroe Elementary Great Pumpkin Fair

Where: Monroe Elementary School, 375 Monroe Turnpike.

When: Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: Moonbounces, children's games, face painting, bounce house, a haunted house maze, popular vendors, raffles and Silent Auction. Some of our silent auction items include ticket to see a taping of Jimmy Fallon, 4 tickets to sit in the grandstand at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, Disney hopper passes and many many more. Homemade treats, fried dough, grilled fare, cotton candy and popcorn are also available.

Milford: Tag Sale to Benefit FeralCare and Nutmeg Clinic

Where: 63 Camden St, Milford, CT

When: Sat., Oct. 20, 2012 9 a.m., RAIN DATE: Sun., Oct. 21

Cost: Free

Description: All proceeds will help the cats and dogs we have aided with spay/neuter and vaccines. Lots of antiques, household items, toys, fabric, Christmas, and other miscellaneous goods.

Trumbull Agriscience Halloween Family Festival

Where: Trumbull Agriscience School, 536 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull

New England's Other Witch Hunt

Where: Trumbull Library, 33 Quality St.

Presidential Politics: Behind the Scenes

Where: Jewish Federation of Western CT, Southbury

When: Sunday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Description: Iris Burnett, who has been a political advisor to two presidents and many elected officials, will give a presentation titled, “Presidential Politics: Behind the Scenes” in Southbury.

Woodbury: All Hollow's Eve at the Glebe House

Where: The Glebe House and Gertrude Jekyll Garden

When: 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. Rain Date: Saturday, Oct. 27

Cost: Tickets in advance are $10 per person and $20 per family. At the door, tickets are $12 per person and $25 per family.

Description: Cemetery tours, costumed people portray ghosts of Woodbury's past. See article for full description.

Hamden Pet Fair

Where: Brooksvale Park 524 Brooksvale Ave, Hamden, CT 06518

When: October 20, 2012 11:00 am–2:00 pm

Cost: $25/person, $40/couple

What: Hamden R-DOG and Hamden Happy Tails Foundation are joining to present the Hamden Pet Fair. It will be held at Brooksvale Park, 524 Brooksvale Avenue, on Saturday, October 20, 2012, starting at 11:00 AM. The annual Happy Tails Halloween Pet Costume Parade will start at 1:00 PM.

"Barefoot in the Park" at Center Stage Shelton

Where: Center Stage Theatre, 54 Grove Street, Shelton CT

When: Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday Oct. 20 at 8 p.m.

Cost: Adults $25, Students $10

Description: In this winsome comedy, newlyweds Corie and Paul negotiate their first apartment, eccentric neighbors and a meddling mother. This Neil Simon hit sparkles with lively wordplay and laughs as well as charming characters who find joy amid inspired lunacy.

Fairfield: Ozone Fitness Training Center Open House

Where: 338 Commerce Drive (entrance in the rear)

When:  Saturday, Oct. 20 – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: The new personal training and fitness studio opened in Fairfield in September and is welcoming new members. There will be class demonstrations, complimentary fitness assessments, and athletic demonstrations, as well as snacks provided by Harborview Market in Black Rock.

Stratford: Fire Department Holds Open House Saturday

Where: 2750 Main St., Stratford

When: Sat., 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cost: Free to attend, $5 for pancake breakfast

Description: See what the typical day of firefighter is like with "real life" fire demonstrations and more at this year's fire department open house.

 

New Canaan: Boy Scout Troop 31 Annual Pumpkin Sale

Where: United Methodist Church of New Canaan, 165 South Ave

When: Oct. 20

Cost: Free

Description: Troop 31 is running it's annual pumpkin sale on Sat. 10/20. This is one of the largest Troop fundraisers for the year. Please come by for a great selection of pumpkins, mums, fall decorations and baked goods.  The sale raises funds for camping equipment, summer camp and international and national camping jamborees.

Howl-O-Ween Doggie Costume Parade!

Where: Starts at 21 Tokeneke Rd., continues less than a mile to 1096 Post Rd., all in Darien

When: Sunday, Oct. 21, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Cost: Free

Kids and their dogs in costume!! It's time for Howl-O-Ween, let's parade from The Hairy Barker Inn & Spa (for dogs) to Chunky Pam's Sweet Shop (a candy store). Sunday October 21st. meet at 12  noon at The Hairy Barker Inn. Prizes will be awarded for best two legged and best four legged costume. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL RECIEVE A GIFT from The Hairy Barker and from Chunky Pam's. Registration is free but we do encourage you to bring a donation for BLANKETS & BOWLS.
