Town to Hold Holiday Kickoff Tonight

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Oxford's Town Hall.

The town of Oxford will hold its annual holiday kickoff at the Stephen B. Church Memorial Town Hall this evening, Friday, Dec. 7.

The festivities begin at 6 p.m. with music being performed by local school children. A tree lighting ceremony will be held promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees are then invited to head inside for food and refreshments, including hot chocolate, coffee, sandwiches, etc.

There are also several events for children to enjoy. Santa Claus will be brought to town on a fire truck, and children can get their photos taken with him at the gazebo. There is also a large snow globe that children can go in and have their photos taken, as well.

The event, put on by the town’s Parks and Recreation Department, is free and open to the public. The Parks and Rec Dept. also has small toys for children.

Despite a threat of rain, the event will still be held, said Deb Gatto, parks and rec. director. She has cancelled the band, though, because there is not room for the band in Town Hall if they need to go inside. Thanks. We'll keep you posted with updates.

Hey Will. Yes, the GOMS band is cancelled tonight. Also, I got your email. Sounds great. I'm waiting to get the official word from my boss, but it sounds awesome and something I'd be interested in. Thanks, Will. I'll get back to you very soon.

Is anyone aware if the chorus is also cancelled tonight?
