Train Collides With SUV in Beacon Falls

One person injured in the accident.

A Metro-North train collided with SUV that drove onto tracks in Beacon Falls Thursday afternoon, leaving one man hospitalized.

At 3:07 p.m., Beacon Hose Fire Co. received a call that an SUV had either backed up or drove onto train tracks near the Beacon Falls platform, said Jeremy Rodorigo, fire department spokesman.

He said the train was carrying about 30 people - none of them were hurt - and that it was slowing to a stop when the accident occurred. A male driver of the SUV was the only person injured, and the extent of his injuries was unknown, though they appeared non-life-threatening, Rodorigo said.

A crane was brought in to remove the vehicle.

An investigation is being handled by Metro North Railroad Police.

My brother in law that lives in Florida was driving his delivery truck for work when he went over the train tracks that do not have lights or gates that come down. His truck was hit by this train that was a cargo train with 50 + cars, he's so lucky to be alive! The train totaled the truck and pushed it 200 yards up the tracks. Craig, I've gotta agree with you, ouch!!!!

It's always best to stop and look at every train crossing whether there are lights or not.
