Community Corner

Rotary Scholarship Dinner

The Rotary Club of Seymour-Oxford is holding its fourth annual Pasta and Meatballs Dinner being held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church in Seymour.   The cost of the table-served, three-course dinner is only $10 per person, and no cost for children under five.  Tickets are available at the door. Take-out service is available.

Event proceeds will fund the Rotary Club's annual scholarship program for Seymour and Oxford students pursuing higher education and support service activities in our communities.

Every year the Seymour-Oxford Rotary Club conducts an essay contest through which the winner of a $500 college scholarship is selected.  The essay must explain the author’s experience in community service, and what the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self," means to them.  As household budgets are stretched in today’s economy, more and more applications for assistance are received.  The Rotary Club hopes to generate enough income to provide two scholarships.

The 2013 Scholarship winner will be announced at the dinner at 7:00 p.m.

The delicious, restaurant-quality dinner is served by local Rotarians, their families, and high school students.  The courses consist of a buttery garlic bread appetizer served with tossed green salad and soft drink, followed by the main course of al dente ziti pasta with two large meatballs in a zesty marinara sauce.  Diners will end their meal with their selection from a variety of desserts along with their choice of coffee or tea.
