Town Meeting Vote on Architect Funds for Library/Learning Center

It’s important to participate in the upcoming vote on $14,010 for the new library/learning center architectural plans. Oxford is in desperate need of more community learning space. The current library is constantly overflowing with people of all ages competing for our limited computer resources and for space at our one study table. Materials from our collection are removed that might be saved if only we had the room to keep them. We experience many missed opportunities from area doctors, lawyers, authors, government offices, etc. They call to ask to come to our library to present educational and social programs that improve literacy skills and enable lifelong learning on a large variety of topics to our residents-which we have to deny because we have no meeting space to hold a program. These are all services Oxford Library should be providing on a wide scale, as other libraries can, but we fail to meet all the needs for the residents of Oxford because of our limited physical area in the basement of town hall. Every week, opportunities for community-building are lost at Oxford Library because of our lack of space. We cannot host the Boy scout troop, the knitting group, the Friends of the Library and 3 area tutors all at the same time, as happened two weeks ago. Please support Oxford’s ability to build a stronger community by supporting the funding for this stage of our new library/learning center planning.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
