Instant Pick-Me-Up: Lip Stains! [VIDEO]

If you're like me, you don't have a lot of time to fuss with makeup reapplication. Read my blog and watch my video on how to use a lip stain if you want an instant pick-me-up that lasts for hours!

If you’re like me, you don’t have a lot of time to fuss with makeup in the morning, nor do you have a lot of time to worry about reapplication throughout the day.  However, I’m a teacher, and at any given moment in my day, I am on stage in front of people, whether it be students or adults.  Therefore, I want to look presentable, but I don’t want to put more effort and time than necessary into it.  I like products that you can put on once and know they’ll last for several hours.  Ergo the lip stain has been introduced into my makeup routine (when I remember to use it in the morning, that is!).

Why even bother?  Well, if you’re a person who has pale lips that make you look pale or sickly (like me some days) then a lip stain is an instant pick-me-up!  Many people often ask me for a quick and easy way to amp up their look, and a lip stain serves this purpose as well, especially if you pick a fun color!

If you’ve ever used a long-lasting makeup product, you know that it can be drying because of the lack of emollients in it. Lip stains are often very wet and fluid, and they can have a drying effect. So, be sure to moisturize at night before bed if you start wearing one every day.  Some of the older, long-lasting lip products merely applied an uncomfortable layer of dried-up color on your lips that could easily be wiped away with some makeup remover or firm rubbing.  The great thing about a lip stain is that your lips absorb the product, therefore, it literally stains your lips. You apply it, wait for it to absorb and dry, and that will be your lip color for the rest of the work day. Because your lips have been stained, you can apply lipstick or just a gloss - or both - on top.  This allows you to have some fun with color, as well!

Lip stains come in several packages ranging from a Magic Marker-style to a click pen applicator.  Cover Girl has a great, inexpensive range of colors at your local drugstore or Walmart.  You may have seen Drew Barrymore promoting them in magazine ads recently.  As always, be sure to buy from a store that allows you to return, should you not favor the color or the product’s performance.

I personally love Tarte Cosmetics’ Rise and Shine lip stains and am very saddened that they are discontinuing the line.  They come with a double-ended wand.  One end has the stain, and the other end has a perfectly complimentary gloss to apply on top of it.  Therefore, this makes our lives easier because all the guesswork goes out the window. You can purchase them at this website http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-rise-and-shine for a deeply discounted price!
