On August 25, I saw the town get together for a wonderful event. More than 500 people showed up for the dedication of our new athletic field complex at the high school. It was punctuated by a wonderful performance by the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps and a beautiful fireworks show that was donated to the town by an anonymous patron. Eveyone took part in a Gatorade toast led by First Selectman George R. Temple who said: "No matter where life takes you...No matter where you roam...You will always be a Wolverine....And this will always be your home.
May all who compete here do so...With intense athletic focus.....Tempered by a liberal sprinkling...of fair play and sportsmanship.''
It was great seeing all of the children out playing on new field and before the dedication people were walking and jogging on the new track. The new fields truly did bring the town together and will continue to do so for many, many years to come.
