My Connection to Oxford, CT

A recent Oxford High grad is now CEO/Executive Chef of an upscale private catering company in Chicago. Joseph Bonavita, Jr., gives readers an overview of his exciting life after high school.

Well first I would like to introduce myself: my name is Joe Bonavita Jr. I was born in Long Island, N.Y., before I moved to Derby, CT. In fourth grade, I moved to Oxford. Throughout my years in Oxford, going through the schools, I had many life changing experiences and gained some amazing friends.

Two months after graduating from Oxford High School in June 2011, I moved to Chicago to continue my career and passion as a chef.

Throughout the years, I've worked with some very well known names in the restaurant industry such as the Lanam Club in Andover, Mass., working under Chef Ben Knack - a top finalist of “Hell’s Kitchen on Fox” - at Smith and Wollensky in Chicago, one of the city's most popular steak houses.

Currently, I am working under Chef Evan Percoco at TheWit Hotel in Chicago, which was named "Top 25 Trendiest Hotels in the United States, #1 in Chicago" by Trip Advisor's Travelers Choice 2012.

As well as working at TheWit, I am the CEO/Executive Chef of Audentia Catering, which is a one-of-a-kind, upscale, high-end, private catering company. For information on my company, check out www.audentiacatering.com

People always ask me, "You are so young; how are you doing so much?" And I always answer, "It's because I am so passionate and determined." Anytime I answer this question, I think about how inspiring my English Teacher at OHS, Mr. Foster, or my Applied Research Teacher, Dr. LaBanca, were to me. They both always pushed me to do my best and always helped me succeed.

In my blog, I will include different events I have going on for my company, as well as seasonal recipes, photographs of different dishes, etc. Also, if anyone has any requests for a food related blog, I will always be willing to look into it.

Great to see IMTI leading the way into the solar future! I went to that school specifically toRead More become a solar electrician. It was before they had a solar program, at the time it was the E-2 electrical course. I see America has a chance to build prosperity again if we will be forward-looking about our manufacturing and energy strategies. My company, Made In USA Solar LLC, aims to contribute to that in a small way, doing what we can by only installing materials made in USA. Congrats to IMTI on their ambitious solar plans!

Archie, Your wrong. Constitutions were written for a reason not to determine whether it's a livingRead More document or not. Politicians and or Anti-Americans only believe that the constitutions are a dead document. They are excuses to put forth an agenda. Without Constitutions this country would be chaos and we wouldn't have the freedoms we have today. Only in your eye's does the words not apply because you think government can prevent and do anything they want. It's the people that rule, NOT THE POLITICIANS!

That is looking at the Constitution as a dead piece of paper instead of a living document. LivingRead More Constitutions read as if they were written yesterday not over 250 years ago. Is the Constitution living or dead. When common sense and ordinary circumstances show that the words of the Constitution no longer apply then the document is dead. That is what occurs when weapons/arms have become so powerful and dangerous that having them available in the numbers you have in this country is tantamount to ultimate murder and chaos. This is definitely not what the Framers had in mind as shown by the words prefacing the 2nd amendment referring to a militia.
