Dr. Chad Andrews Joins the Surgical Team at Newtown Veterinary Specialists

Newtown Veterinary Specialists (NVS) offers a state-of-the art specialty hospital offering over 15,000 square feet of emergency specialty care for your pet. The facility is complete with three surgical suites, a fully equipped on-site laboratory for comprehensive treatment of traumas plus acute and chronic illnesses. NVS offers an extensive team of specialists who work in collaboration with your primary care veterinarian to provide a diagnosis, treatment and the best critical care for your pet.

Our services include over nine areas of specialty, including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Behavior, Critical Care and 24X7 Emergency Service. Currently, our surgery team is expanding to include a new doctor. Dr. Chad Andrews received his DVM from The Ohio State University. He completed a rotating internship at the University of Georgia, a surgical internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX and his residency at The University of Tennessee. He stayed on as an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine where he lead the Total Hip Replacement Program and mentored residents in the art of arthroscopy as well as a multitude of other procedures. He was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in March 2012. He has been involved with various surgical teaching labs that provide continuing education credits to surgeons and general practitioners.

Dr. Andrews joins our Chief Medical Officer and the Chief of Surgery Debra L.Weisman, DVM, MS Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons in September 2013. He will offer expertise in the area of minimally invasive procedures such as Arthroscopy, Intra-tracheal Stent Placement for Collapsing Trachea, Laparoscopy Assisted Gastropexy and Cystotomy and Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis (MIPO). He is also expanding NVS capabilities with strong orthopedics in the area of Total Hip Replacements and comprehensive treatment of cruciate ligament damage (CBLO, TPLO, TTA and Swivel Lock). Lastly, he will be able to support various neurosurgery needs including Hemilaminectomy and Ventral Slots for disc disease.
