Obituary: Alma Piper, 82, Longtime Oxford Resident

Services will take place on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Mrs. Alma Jane (Bauer) Piper, 82, of Naugatuck, passed away Jan. 6, 2014, at  the Beacon Brook Health Center. She was the wife of Hubert B. Piper.

Mrs. Piper was born in Derby on Mar. 28, 1931, a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Catherine (Sullivan) Bauer. 

She had been an Oxford resident for most of her life. She was a graduate of Seymour High School and had been an employee of Farrell- Birmingham Co. as an office secretary for more than 10 years, leaving in 1961 to raise her family.

She was a member of the Congregational Church of Naugatuck and had enjoyed bowling and dancing. She also loved to sew and garden and enjoyed going fishing with her family. She was considered an excellent cook.

Besides her husband of 61 years, she leaves her daughter, JoAnn Piper of Naugatuck; one sister, Ruth Curran of Naugatuck; and five grandchildren, Jordan Ford, Mason Ford, Haley Ford, Olivia Ford, and Sam Vasile.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be in Pines Bridge Cemetery, Beacon Falls, at the convenience of the family. 

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. 

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions to the VNA Hope Team, 50 Brookside Drive, Waterbury, 06708.
