Obituary: Francis Evon, 71

Mr. Evon was a decorated Vietnam War veteran. His funeral will be held Tuesday at Christ Church Quaker Farms in Oxford.

Francis (Ziggy) J. Evon, 71, of Naugatuck, beloved husband for 45 years of Joyce (Guisto) Evon passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon January 10, 2013 at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck.

Mr. Evon was born August 11, 1941 in Waterbury, a son of the late Napoleon Alfred and Mary Elisabeth (Tyrell) Evon, and step-son of the late Rita (Berthieum) Evon. He attended Leavenworth High School and was a licensed plumber for the last 50 years. Mr. Evon served honorably in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, The Riffle Marksman badge, and the Conn. Veterans Service Medal. He was active in the Glendale Community Club and served as past president. He had a passion for UConn basketball and was an avid NY Yankee fan. His grandchildren were truly the most important people in his life.

Besides his wife, he was the loving father of four children; Fran Jr. and his wife Laura of Newington; Scott and his wife Lisa of Barkhamsted; daughter Anne-Marie Sharron and her husband Ken of Oxford; and Brian and his wife Rebecca of Naugatuck. He leaves behind ten grandchildren; Elizabeth, Tyler, Emily, Eric, Kyle, Sarah, Julia, Raphel, Brady and Brooke; 5 brothers and sisters, Alfred Evon of Middlebury, Larry Evon and Paul Evon both of Oakville, Mary Sosbe of Wolcott and Lois Honyotski of Waterbury and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Gerald Evon, Arnold Evon, and Roger Evon. 

His Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Christ Church of Quaker Farms, 470 Quaker Farms Road, Oxford with a Celebration of Requiem Eucharist. Friends and family are requested to meet directly at the church prior to the service. Full Military Honors will be accorded after the service, at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. (RT 63) on SUNDAY Jan. 13, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Senior Care Centers of America, 900 Straits Tpk., Middlebury, 06762. This article seems to be nothing more than an anonymous and free infomercial for Staples.Read More "J" posted this same spam "article" on Patch sites in many towns, just changing the name of the town to match the Patch site. That seems to be the spirit of Staples, free-loading in every way they can. Even this "teacher program" has nothing to do with eliminating the need for teachers to spend their own money on school supplies --it is simply a way for that retailer to take advantage of the situation by attracting the lucrative teacher market. Staples should change their name to MADE IN CHINA OFFICE SUPPLIES, as virtually nothing they sell is manufactured in our country.
