Obituary: Raymond Pope, 89, of Oxford

OXFORD, CT: Raymond Pope, 89 a lifelong Oxford resident entered into peaceful rest July 11, 2013 at the Waterbury Hospital; he was the beloved husband of the late Thelma (Lovdal) Pope. Born Jan. 6, 1924 in Oxford, son of the late William and May (Aldrich) Pope. He was a WW II U.S. Marine Corps Veteran having served in the Pacific and European Theaters of Operations; he participated in the Battle at Battle of Guadalcanal. Mr. Pope was a member and Past Commander of the David S. Miles Post 174, American Legion. He was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry. Raymond was a firefighter and Past Captain of the Quaker Farms Fire Co.

Mr. Pope leaves his loving family including a son Dr. Alan Pope MD, (Natalie) of Moorestown, NJ, and a daughter, Irene Gentile (Dr. Joseph, DMD) and grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Lauren, Andrew, and Alexa.

Calling Hours are Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Christ Episcopal church, 740 Quaker Farms Rd. Oxford, the service of Requiem Eucharist will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in Brookside Cemetery. Memorial Gifts may be sent to Christ Episcopal Church. The Ralph E.
