Obituary: Raymond Stanley Kostka, 86

Raymond Stanley Kostka, Sr., 86,  entered eternal rest peacefully and comfortably on Sunday July 7, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.  Raymond was born August 22, 1926 at his parents’ home on Walnut Street in Seymour. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 53 years, Mary (Anderson) Kostka, his parents Peter and Agnes Kostka and his two brothers Edward and Henry. 

He is survived by his five children Karen Rempel and her husband Steven of The Dales, Oregon; Raymond Kostka, Jr. and his wife Candice and their four children, Clare, Lauren, Christian, and James (all of Oxford); Kathy Sembrowich and her husband Tom; Richard Kostka and his wife Shari and their two children Randy and Scott; and Marianne Tkacz and her husband Robert and their three children Christina, Nicole and John.  He is also survived by his loving friend Edyth Carrington and his wonderful Church Family at the Seymour Congregational Church in Seymour.

Raymond graduated from Seymour High School in 1944 where he played baseball and basketball.  After graduating high school, he  joined the Navy where he served for 15 months making five trips across the Atlantic Ocean; he is a WWII Veteran, and member of the Emil Senger Post 10, American Legion.  He worked for Connecticut Light and Power Company as a Meter Reader and Field Technician for thirty eight years,  retiring  from CL&P 26 years ago.

Raymond enjoyed fishing and camping with his family on Lake Champlain, Bantam Lake and Highland Lake.  He also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and playing cards. 

Calling hours will be at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday (TODAY), and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. The  Funeral will be Wednesday at the Seymour Congregational Church, 15 Broad St., Seymour  at 10:30 a.m.  Interment with Full Military Honors will be in Southford Cemetery, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Seymour Congregational Church, or to VITAS Innovative Hospice, 199 Park Road, Ext., Ste. 102, Middlebury, CT 06762.
