Board Of Education seeks what is best for the children of it's town (WARNING NOT OXFORD)

A mixed board of 5 republicans and 4 democrats chose to do what they were elected to do and put politics aside for the betterment of the town and the students.  This Utopian society is Shelton CT our neighbor in the Valley.  Unlike Oxford where Garard Carbannaro wrote a misleading letter to voices to say vote no on a budget which came through the board of education he is a member of.  Assisting him with putting up signs all over town saying no tax increase vote NO was Dave Stocker the head of our republican party.  It is amazing what happens when towns put aside political differences and seek solutions.  Read all about it...  http://valley.newhavenindependent.org/archives/entry/city_school_officials_talking_full-day_k_in_she...

@tim so why don't you enroll your little one in a FDK program and forgo the 1/2 day one to keep from interrupting the learning.Where were all of you on Tuesday evening when the Quarry project was being presented? It is continued to this Monday night coming. The project calls for stores and housing and in order for any of this to happen a sewer and water line must be installed up Rt 67 to the quarry. Will you all come out to be sure that it is paid for by the developer and not the tax payers? it will be a very expensive project to bring sewer and water there. No sewer and water no development what should we do demand that the developer pay to have it installed or should we the tax payers of Oxford foot the bill? To me I could care less if FDK ever comes to town it has always been about the expense and how it will be funded. Keep in mind the more projects that demand Oxford tax payers to foot the bill the less likely the chances of those projects ever seeing the light of day.

@dave take this for what its worth. Your position against fdk and the ed budget has caused many parents in this town to start to question your party's commitment to education. I encourage you to go down to the schools and the fields and listen to what people are saying. You forget that parents played a large role in electing temple and keeping him in office because he supports education and bettering our school system and facilities. Based on the remarks on this blog from yourself and members of your rank and file, I guess your party no longer needs the votes from this constituency. On a side note, being against fdk when 90% of towns in new haven county are moving ttowards it is a losing proposition and political suicide. Good luck explaining voters in november how not having this in force makes oxford schools more competitive.

Mark are you now repeating you posts? Or is it a copy and paste from someone else s post? seem to have read that in an earlier story last week. My position on the budgets were that we were getting a tax increase I felt was too high, initiating programs that were not being funded by grand list growth. If you have read any of my post you would have know FDK was part of the unfunded programs you would of have also read that Connellan was leaving and he is the one with the budget #s that an entire committee said would cost double what he proposed. Then you would also see if you read the Vally Independent Sentinel how the #s game is being played in Shelton to appease 333kindergarten parents. If you care about having the money next year for your program you will need to spend time and pay attention to the Town of Oxford and not just the BOE budget.

One thing our BOE and next superintendent need to do is become intimate with what common core is and is not. Presentations such as these are popping up all over the country; one of the education experts, Dr. Strotsky, spoke at the hearing this year in Hartford and gave us tangible reason to be concerned. Here is a link to the first speak from a presentation last evening in Sherman, CT. There were several presenters last night. If we really want educational excellence we need local control and to not be seduced by money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngxCUMxQM-c
