Citizens Express concerns about Child Safety in Oxford

OXFORD  CITIZENS'  FORUM ON CHILD SAFETY  (OFOCS) HOLDS INAUGERAL MEETING By Molly Turchuk,  OFOCS Clerk, & the Rev. John Donnelly   It was nothing short of amazing when  25 Oxford parents gathered on Thursday, November 14, to express their thoughts and concerns about our children's safety in Oxford.   Meeting at Christ Church Quaker Farms,  discussion was led by John Peterson, the Chair  & Founder  of the new  Oxford Citizen's Forum on Child Safety. (OCFOCS).   The topics ranged from bullying at local schools and buses to the safety for all on our towns roads.  The First Selectman, Mr. Temple was present along with our two Resident Troopers. The attendees were open and honest about their concerns over Oxford and our ability to keep our children safe.  Moved by the emotions and passion of the parents, Mr. Temple has agreed to hold  a Town Meeting,   to include the Board of Education as well as school representation.   This will be held at a date to be announced in the New Year.   Meanwhile, as a way for interested citizens to prepare to speak at that meeting, the new OCFOCS  will meet on Thursday, 7:00 to 8:30 PM. January 23, 2014. Location to be determined It is critical to gain feedback from as many community members as possible to gain traction and create action. For more information, or to receive notice of the meeting in the 2014, call 203-888-4936 and leave a voice mail message for John Peterson.
