FREE- DEEP to Offer Children’s Programs at Sessions Woods (2/8 & 2/22)

Ever wonder how a red fox survives through a Connecticut winter? Or, if black bears really do hibernate? To find out the answers to these questions and more, come join Mindy Domurat, Outreach Assistant for the DEEP Wildlife Division, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014, for “Adventures with Connecticut’s Furbearers!” This entertaining indoor and outdoor program is best suited for children ages 3 to 10, but all who are interested are welcome. Mindy will begin in the exhibit hall with some background information about animals with fur, and then move the party outside for a furbearer scavenger hunt. Following the scavenger hunt, everyone is invited back inside to work on crafts. Children and the adults accompanying them should make sure they wear appropriate clothing for the outdoor activities. The year 2014 has been declared the “Year of the Salamander” and it is time to celebrate! Kids are invited to join accomplished local expressive arts educator Judy Bird and DEEP Wildlife Division Natural Resource Educator Laura Rogers-Castro at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, for “Salamanders!” This fascinating program begins with Laura discussing the secretive world of salamanders and explaining why they are vital to the continued health of Connecticut’s natural environment. Following Laura’s discussion, Judy will lead the group in a creative salamander art project. All materials will be provided and admission is free. Children and adults are welcome to come in from the cold and celebrate the “Year of the Salamander” with Judy and Laura.
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s today announced it will be offering two programs in February for children of all ages at the Sessions Woods Conservation Education Center, Burlington. The programs are free and will be offered on February 8th and February 22nd.  The first program, “Adventures with Connecticut’s Furbearers” will be offered on Saturday, February 8th at 1:30 p.m.  The second program, “Salamanders” will be offered on Saturday, February 22nd at 1:30 p.m.
