A Rhodesian Ridgeback is Far from Home

A dog that either became lost or was abandoned is staying at the Monroe Animal Shelter.

A stray Rhodesian Ridgeback found wandering around in the Guinea Road and Gaylor Drive area at 10 o'clock Wednesday night was captured by a Monroe Animal Control officer. The male dog was wearing a collar with a rabies tag that expired in 2009, according to police.

An officer called the animal's veterinarian to get information on its owner on Thursday morning, but the office was closed, police said, adding the dog may have wandered over from other neighboring town, possibly Newtown.
