A stray Rhodesian Ridgeback found wandering around in the Guinea Road and Gaylor Drive area at 10 o'clock Wednesday night was captured by a Monroe Animal Control officer. The male dog was wearing a collar with a rabies tag that expired in 2009, according to police.
An officer called the animal's veterinarian to get information on its owner on Thursday morning, but the office was closed, police said, adding the dog may have wandered over from other neighboring town, possibly Newtown.
The dog, which is large, weighing at least 110 pounds, is staying at the Monroe Animal Shelter on Purdy Hill Road. Anyone with information should call animal control at (203) 452-3760.
