The Oxford Democratic Town Committee chairwoman has reported to police that more than 50 political signs representing Democrats or events sponsored by local Dems have been stolen from various locations throughout town.

She also said that signs for President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. Chris Murphy, D-5th District, Rep. Jim Jimes, D-4th District, and 32nd state senate candidate James Gambardella.

"Strangely enough, the political signs for the Republican candidates remain in their place," Krane wrote in an email to Oxford Patch. "It can be assumed that this is  being done by some Republicans. “I am  surprised that they would resort to such tactics. Some narrow-minded local citizens - in a reprehensible act of political immaturity - tore down these signs put up by the Democratic Town Committee. ...How low can you go? Just a sign of desperation."

Republican Town Committee Chairman David Stocker said his group had nothing to do with the thefts. He said some Republican signs had been stolen this year and in years passed, as well.
