OXFORD – A German shepherd dog is under quarantine after it attacked and seriously injured two women in Oxford early Tuesday evening, police said.
The dog, owned by Linda Riso, 50, of Christina Road, got loose in the neighborhood and attacked a woman across the street, according to a police report. As another woman was trying to stop the dog from attacking, the animal attacked her, too, the report states.
Police said 49-year-old Karen Rand and 37-year-old Christine Loescher were injured in the attack and were bitten hard by the dog. The extent of their injuries could not be confirmed Thursday, though the police report states they were substantial and required treatment at Griffin Hospital in Derby.
Oxford Animal Control responsed to the scene and removed the dog, which was secured for a mandatory 14-day quarantine. Oxford Animal Control Officer Sandy Merry said Thursday she could not comment about the case.
The owner of the dog, 50-year-old Linda Riso, of 5 Christina Road, was issued an infraction for a nuisance violation and for allowing a dog to roam.
