'Not Guilty' Plea in Crash That Killed 3-Year-Old Oxford Girl

Waterbury man arraigned for accident that caused the death of Oxford's Lily Brooks.

Waterbury resident Garrett Baker was arraigned in Derby Superior Court Monday on charges related to the Sept. 11, 2013 accident that took the life of 3-year-old Oxford resident Lily Brooks.

Baker, 30, pleaded ‘not guilty’ Monday and the case was continued to April 16.

Baker was arrested in February after an investigation into the accident that took place on Quaker Farm Road shortly after noon on Sept. 11.

According to police, Baker was driving his Ford F550 when he crossed over the centerlines and crashed into the Subaru Outback being driven by Amy Brooks. Brooks and Baker both sustained minor injuries, as did Baker’s passenger, Nicole Bahr, however Brooks’ daughter, Lily, was incapacitated when emergency responders arrived.

Lily was rushed to the hospital by Life Star helicopter, where she passed away 3 days later.

At the time of the accident, police said they were investigating whether Baker might have been on prescription medication.

Baker is charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, distracted driving and failure to drive on the right side of the road. He was released on $75,000 prior to his arraignment Monday.
