The team took home three first place awards.

The Oxford Junior Fire Department members recently took three first place awards, one third and a participation award at the 41st-annual Engine 260 Antique Fire Apparatus Show and Muster.

Teams participate in several firefighter-related competitions, including one where a baby doll must be saved from a building. Others include water pump races, a tug-o-war and a bucket relay. (See photos attached)

"The Oxford Juniors are a integral part of the Oxford Fire Department, with many alumnus entering the senior corps at 18 with some becoming department officers," said Keith Nelsen, training officer for the Oxford Fire Department. "The junior corps has been a major recruiting tool and also provides the OFD with new members already trained in many facets of the fire service."

Juniors respond to town emergencies with the  senior corps. The department's bylaws limit it to 20 juniors. Several juniors just moved up to the senior corps, meaning there are six openings for the junior corps. Call the fire department at 203.888.9090.
