Oxford Man Involved in Fatal Accident on I-84

Naugatuck woman is killed in accident Friday night.

Police have identified the woman who died in a car accident on Interstate 84 in Waterbury Friday as 61-year-old Pamela Winston of Naugatuck.

The Waterbury Police Department sent out a news release Saturday afternoon stating that Winston was driving a 2001 Kia Sephia west on Route 64 after exiting I-84 West at Exit 17 at 4:54 p.m. when her car collided with a tractor-trailer headed east on Route 64.

The tractor-trailer, driven by Michael Ploch, 51, of Oxford, struck the driver's side door of the Kia as Ploch attempted to turn left onto Chase Parkway, the release states.

Winston was taken by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. Ploch was not injured, according to the release.

The WPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating the crash and no charges had been filed as of Saturday afternoon.

Correction: This story has been corrected to state that Ploch was attempting to turn left onto Chase Parkway. The story originally misstated who was attempting to turn left. We regret the error.
