On Oct 14, a Monroe police officer responding to the report of a 2008 Toyota Tacoma driving erratically on Route 34 in Newtown spotted it entering Monroe at around 2:35 a.m. He got behind the vehicle on Stevenson Dam and alerted State Troopers in Oxford. While behind the driver, police said the Toyota kept swerving into the other lane, nearly causing head on collisions on two occasions.
The Monroe officer stopped the truck for the safety of the operator and other drivers on Route 34 and waited for an Oxford trooper to arrive, according to police. Field tests determined the driver, Manuel Ixcaya, 36, of Hotchkiss Street in New Haven was under the influence, police said.
A resident trooper from Oxford arrested Ixcaya and charged him with DUI and operating without a license. He was released on $1,000 surety bond for an Oct. 26 court date.
