Report: Suspect in Oxford Shooting in Custody; Estranged Wife One of Two Victims

Posts on Scott Gellatly's public Facebook page give a glimpse into a possible motive behind the shooting of two women early Wednesday morning, including his estranged wife.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Scott Gellatly is in custody and the manhunt for the suspected shooter has been called off.

Gellatly was found on Route 8 in Winsted around 11:40 a.m., according to the CT Post.

Several outlets have also reported that Lori Gellatly, the alleged shooter’s estranged wife, has died, quoting State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance. Vance was not immediately available to confirm.

An Oxford woman who was originally thought to have been taken hostage by her estranged husband Wednesday morning is actually one of two victims of the early morning shooting, according to new information.

A representative from Waterbury Hospital confirmed that Lori Gellatly was taken to the hospital and was in the emergency room as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in unknown condition.

An emergency room nurse was unable to provide more information when contacted.

The search continues for the suspect in a double-shooting early Wednesday morning on Sioux Drive, in which two women were critically injured and another taken hostage by the shooter, reportedly her estranged husband.

State police received a 9-1-1 call around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday about a man attempting to force his way into a home on Sioux Drive. Upon arriving, officers found two adults severely wounded.

According to CT Post reporter Jim Shay, two women were shot and “suffered serious injuries” before being taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Police began a search for the suspect, 46-year-old Scott Gellatly, who is reportedly armed and has taken his estranged wife, Lori Gellatly, as a hostage.

Police issued a Silver Alert for 32-year-old Lori Gellatly Wednesday morning, but rescinded it shortly after.

Officers are actively looking for Scott Gellatly, who fled the scene in a 2013 Ford Escape but later ditched that for a 2012 Toyota Tacoma. Police have issued an alert for a black Tacoma with license plate 2741CC.

Court records do not show any convictions or pending cases against Gellatly.

First Selectman George Temple was in the process of gathering more information Tuesday morning before issuing a Code Red reverse 9-1-1 phone call to residents, he told Patch.

A similar call went out to parents of schoolchildren from Superintendent Tim Connellan earlier, informing them that the district’s schools were in “emergency mode.”

"Right now my prime concern is school safety,” Temple said. “We have brought in extra police to make sure our schools are safe."

The Swan Lake neighborhood has also been secured and locked down since this morning as local and state police continue to investigate.

Oxford parents received a call from Superintendent Tim Connellan informing them that the schools are in emergency mode.

State police have issued an alert to look for a black Toyota Tacoma with license plate 2741CC in connection with this morning's shooting.

State Police have located a Ford Escape in Oxford in connection with this morning's shooting. The vehicle was unoccupied, according to reports on the scanner.

Police confirmed on the scanner that they are looking for a black 2012 Toyota Tacoma.

St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury is in lockdown, a hospital employee says.

Despite reports to the contrary, there are currently no Waterbury Public Schools in lockdown as a result of the Oxford shooting, a district employee told Patch.

Waterbury dispatch says the suspect may be driving a black 2012 Toyota Tacoma.

Connecticut State Police are searching for a man who reportedly shot two people in Oxford Wednesday morning.

The unidentified suspect may have a hostage with him, state police told the Hartford Courant.

The shooting took place this morning on Sioux Drive and state police were still on scene as of 7:45 a.m., according to scanner reports.

The Courant reports that the two victims were transported to Waterbury Hospital.
