The individuals involved in a Lake Zoar Jet Ski accident that sent two teens to the hospital Sunday have been identified.
According to DEEP Communications Director Dennis Schain, a jet ski operated by a Norwalk man collided with another jet ski carrying two Shelton teens at close to 5 p.m. near the Lakeside Marina in Southbury.
James A. Drescher, 24, of Norwalk was operating the Jet Ski that struck the other watercraft and is now facing charges of violating rules preventing a collision, second-degree reckless operation and operating a personal watercraft without a certificate.
Drescher was issued the infraction/violation ticket on site and was released by police. He can now either pay a fine or plead and get court date, Schain said.
William Landan, 18, of Shelton, was operating the Jet Ski that was struck. Also on board was a 16-year-old passenger. Both teens were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They have both been released from the hospital, according to St. Mary’s officials.
Both Jet Skis were seized and the accident is currently under investigation by the DEEP’s EnCon Police’s Boating Accident Reconstruction Unit, according to Schain.
