State and local authorities are asking for assistance from a witness as they continue to investigate an armed robbery that occurred Sunday, June 3, at the Kiran Mart in the Southford section of Southbury, near the Oxford border.
Police have been provided details of the incident by the owner of the Kiran Mart, at 1450 Southford Road, and a witness; both were reportedly confronted at gunpoint by the man. Police are now hoping another witness inside the store will come forward.
Police also received a report this week of a second suspicious vehicle parked in the area at the time of the robbery. According to police, a dark sedan was parked in the Southford Medical Building parking lot, which, separated by trees, faces the rear parking lot of the Kiran Mart, where the armed man reportedly ran after exiting the store.
A different suspicious vehicle was reported shortly after the robbery, police said. The vehicle was described as an older model Dodge Durango with a rounded front end traveling at a high rate of speed on Diamond Match Road toward Route 188.
Southbury and State Police continue to search for the man they describe as a tall and thin Hispanic male in his early 20s. He was carrying a silver semiautomatic handgun and speaking with a Spanish accent during the incident, police said.
Anyone with information regarding is asked to contact Southbury Police Officer David Rodriguez at (203) 264-5912 or State Police Detective Mike Downs at (203) 267-2240.
