Newtown Superintendent to Speak at U.S. Senate Hearing

Janet Robinson will be among a panel of speakers who will discuss ways to prevent future gun violence.


Newtown Superintendent of Schools Dr. Janet Robinson is among a panel of speakers who will testify during a Democratic Steering & Policy Committee Hearing on Wednesday.

The hearing, called "Gun Violence Prevention: A Call to Action," is being held by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. The hearing will discuss what can be done to prevent future gun violence and learn from the wide range of experience and expertise presented by the invited panelists.

  • Michael A. Nutter, Mayor, City of Philadelphia
  • Scott Knight, Chief of Police, City of Chaska, Minnesota and Former Chair of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Firearms Committee
  • Ms. Emily Nottingham, Mother of Gabe Zimmerman

The hearing will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m.

Others who will participate include Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Co-Chair, Democratic Steering & Policy Committee; Congressman Rob Andrews, Co-Chair, Democratic Steering & Policy Committee; Mike Thompson, Chair, Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention; Members, Democratic Steering & Policy Committee, Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention.

Robinson will be speaking about a month after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in which 20 students and six educators were gunned down.
