Oxford Eye on the Beltway: Himes Wonders What's Next

And, Lieberman talks with CNN about the Taliban.

BLUMENTHAL: In an interview with The Daily Campus, the senator expressed his support for Know Before You Owe Private Lender Act, which would require private lenders to inform prospective student borrowers of all of their loan options, "so people don’t leap into committing."

LIEBERMAN: Following the death of a Afghan peacemaker in Kabul on Sunday, the senator told CNN that the Taliban "is not interested in peace talks," according to GovExec.com. Lieberman also said that the U.S. should "continue to put pressure" on the Taliban to engage in these talks.

HIMES: The congressman used Twitter to ponder what's coming this week in Congress' 2012 session:

"Back in DC. Last week, GOP saved a non-existent $20 bn from TBTF banks and eliminated a real $20 bn in food stamps for the poor. This week?"

DELAURO: The congresswoman introduced legislation on Tuesday to help end obstetric fistula, which affects two million women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa. The bill encourages the expansion of private and public-private efforts and promotes trained specialists going to Africa to help train health care providers.

“This legislation has the potential to transform the empowerment of women in the region by eradicating fistula and, as a result, improving the social, educational, and economic conditions of fistula victims and their communities,” DeLauro said.

MURPHY: The congressman was joined by Rosa DeLauro, Joe Courtney and Karen Jarmoc from the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence on Monday to call for immediate action to reauthorize and strengthen the Violence Against Women Act.

"Domestic violence is the last issue that should be politicized," he said. "Whether you're gay, straight, Native American, or an immigrant, victims of domestic violence are victims, plain and simple, and Congress needs to act now to ensure the Violence Against Women Act is as strong as it can be."

Great to see IMTI leading the way into the solar future! I went to that school specifically toRead More become a solar electrician. It was before they had a solar program, at the time it was the E-2 electrical course. I see America has a chance to build prosperity again if we will be forward-looking about our manufacturing and energy strategies. My company, Made In USA Solar LLC, aims to contribute to that in a small way, doing what we can by only installing materials made in USA. Congrats to IMTI on their ambitious solar plans!

Archie, Your wrong. Constitutions were written for a reason not to determine whether it's a livingRead More document or not. Politicians and or Anti-Americans only believe that the constitutions are a dead document. They are excuses to put forth an agenda. Without Constitutions this country would be chaos and we wouldn't have the freedoms we have today. Only in your eye's does the words not apply because you think government can prevent and do anything they want. It's the people that rule, NOT THE POLITICIANS!
Archie1954 April 18, 2013 at 06:31 pm
That is looking at the Constitution as a dead piece of paper instead of a living document. LivingRead More Constitutions read as if they were written yesterday not over 250 years ago. Is the Constitution living or dead. When common sense and ordinary circumstances show that the words of the Constitution no longer apply then the document is dead. That is what occurs when weapons/arms have become so powerful and dangerous that having them available in the numbers you have in this country is tantamount to ultimate murder and chaos. This is definitely not what the Framers had in mind as shown by the words prefacing the 2nd amendment referring to a militia.
